You Let God Take Care of It

This Sunday we are continuing our series preaching through the book of 1 Samuel.  This time we are in chapter 25.  In this chapter we have, first of all, an historical note telling us that Samuel has passed away.  All Israel gathers for his funeral and mourn their loss.  Then we are told of the next major event with David as he is just trying to survive well in his exile from Saul.  As a result, he asks for some help from Nabal, a wealthy man in the wilderness of Paran, near Maon.  David was just looking for a little help as Nabal was successful in his sheepshearing.  But the text tells us that Nabal was an awful man that you could not even speak to him.  But his wife, Abagail, was a beautiful woman, physically and spiritually.  As David vows revenge, God uses Abigail to stop David from taking the matter into his own hand.  What is the lesson for us here in this passage?  We need to be careful how we respond to people who treat us wrongly.  We need to do the right thing.  Our scripture reading is Romans 12:9-21 where verse 19 says …”vengeance is mine saith the Lord, I will repay.”  David praises the Lord for His using a wise, spiritual woman to keep him from doing sin against the Lord.  Are we responding correctly when we are mistreated?  More on this Sunday morning.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Weaver
