This Sunday, in our series in the gospel of Matthew, we are now in chapter 8 looking at verses 5-13. In this passage Jesus continues, after finishing His Sermon on the Mount, to encounter people and their needs, as they come to Him and He goes to them. In this passage a foreigner, an occupying officer of the Roman army comes to Jesus with a need of a young, sick, slave boy. Jesus immediately agrees to come heal the young man. What’s interesting to note is the humility of this Roman Centurion and to see how he recognizes Jesus’s authority. Something that Jesus has not seen even in Israel. We need to learn about this authority of God (Jesus) and the Word of God. It is what gives us the authority and the basis of our faith. Our topic for this Sunday. Our scripture reading is Matthew 21:21-27. I chose this passage because it speaks of Jesus’s authority being questioned by the religious leaders. We see Jesus’s response to them and their unwillingness to submit to His authority. So, our question for this study, from where do you get your authority? By what authority do you claim to be on your way to heaven? Are you on your way to heaven? Answers to these questions and more this Sunday morning…
See you Sunday,
Pastor Weaver
