Reaching Out

This Sunday, we continue our series in the gospel of Matthew.  Since we have already preached through the Sermon on the Mount (June 2023 – March 2024), we now jump to chapter 8 looking at verses 1-4.  In this passage we have Jesus, just finishing His Sermon on the Mount, now goes down the mountain and begins to show what it means to live “Christlikeness.”  As He now encounters many people and their individual needs (in chapters 8-10), as they come to Him and He goes to them.  What an example Christ is to us here as the 1st person who comes to Him is a gross diseased man with leprosy.  What’s interesting to note is how Jesus treats this man, as well as the man’s faith.  Again, the people, the multitudes, are watching and we are reading!  We need to learn the love and compassion of Jesus to others.  This is what we’ll talk about this Sunday.

Our scripture reading is Mark 1:40-45.  In this passage we see the parallel story of the one we have in Matthew about the leper being healed.  What Mark includes is the part where the healed man does not fully follow the Lord’s instructions after the healing.  It does make ministry more difficult for the Lord!  While the healed man probably thinks he is doing the right thing by telling others.  Oh, how important it is to obey!  More on all this Sunday morning…

See you Sunday,

Pastor Weaver
