Hope Deferred When Your Examples Let You Down

This Sunday, we continue again our topical series on the scripture: Proverbs 13:12 “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”  This “Hope Deferred” series helps us with Biblical guidance when our hopes, dreams, plans, become deferred, that is delayed for a period of time, or even forever.  This week, we will talk about “Hope Deferred When Your Examples Let You Down.”  Our text is 1 Thessalonians 1:5-10.  In this passage the apostle Paul tells the church of Thessalonica how, in their Christian walk, they have followed him and other apostles, and how their example is impacting others.  We all follow examples and leaders in our lives.  Leaders, particularly Christian leaders, can have such a good impact in our lives.  But when they fall, fail, sin, or even apostate they can sometimes really adversely affect believers.  Why do we have hope deferred with spiritual leaders who have let us down?  Why is it hard at times?  In this message I want to give 4 principles to remember when following others for you to consider.

Our scripture reading this Sunday is from 1 Corinthians 10:5-13.  This passage talks about how the Old Testament was written for our example, particularly Israel’s example laid out in that text.  More on all this Sunday morning at 9:30 am.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Weaver
