This Sunday, we continue our topical series on the scripture: Proverbs 13:12 “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.” This “Hope Deferred” series helps us with Biblical guidance when our hopes, dreams, plans, become deferred, that is delayed for a period of time, or even forever. This week, we will talk again about “Hope Deferred in Parents/Children.” We were not able to finish last week because of running out of time. Our text this week is different than last week 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1. In this passage, Paul is talking about our relationship with God, and how our God sees us: as a father to his children. We often can have hope deferred in families where people the closest to us, and that we love the most can let us down and disappoint us – because of sin. We talked about what causes hope deferred in families, particularly in parents. In this sermon this week we will talk about hope deferred in children, sons and daughters.
Our scripture reading this Sunday is 2 Samuel 7:12-17, a passage that talks about the Davidic Covenant, given in response to King David’s desire to build the temple. There God says that David’s offspring will be treated as a son to God, and that the promises of that covenant will last forever. More on all this Sunday morning at 9:30 am.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Weaver
