Ok, so this Sunday, we will do a 2-part message (we will do this week and next) that turned into a 2-part message this (Friday) morning. We are still continuing our series in the book of 1st Samuel looking at chapter 16 verses 14-23. Now to introduce this text, which is talking about peace, I had planned to look at Hebrews 4:9-16 (our scripture reading) and talk there briefly about entering into God’s rest, and what that means. But as I continued to work and develop that text, with so much good material there; I decided to make it a separate message for this Sunday. So, we will look at and talk about the 1 Samuel text next Sunday that deals with this same topic. Now here in this Hebrews text, the focus is on the availability of God’s rest, peace, and the potential of believers missing out on it. Why? Because Israel did, back at a time when God had promised a rest to them. The writer of Hebrews talks about that in the 3rd chapter of Hebrews. And then in the 4th chapter, the writer of Hebrews’ concern is for believers today possibly missing out on God’s rest! Included is a message for us: are we at peace with God? Is there something that is keeping you from being at peace with God and thereby not entering into His rest? Some very important things to talk about Sunday. More on all this then.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Weaver
