This Sunday, we continue our series in the gospel of Matthew, looking now at chapter 4 verses 1-11.  In this passage we see Jesus, just after His exciting baptism, now being led by the same Spirit to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.  Jesus faces probably many temptations over perhaps a prolonged period, but we are only given the highlights, 3 temptations in this text, perhaps the top 3.  Jesus is already an example to us and here He further identifies with us (we spoke of last week) and shows us how and why to resist temptation.  It’s interesting to note how Satan moves Christ from place to place and then uses scripture to entice the Lord.  Each of these temptations are curtailed exactly to Christ and what His desires would be in His humanness.  To us, several of these temptations might look like, what would be the problem with doing that?  I will explain the problems with each one.  I also think that’s the point of the passage – to show the uniqueness of each of our temptations and the root cause of why we fail.  We will look at principles that we can learn from each of Jesus’s temptations.  Our scripture reading is Hebrews 4:9-16. In this passage we see the promise that Jesus faced temptations, the same kind of temptations that we face daily.  More on all this Sunday morning…
