This Sunday, we will do a 4th of July message from Jeremiah 17:1-14. In this passage is a warning to Judah due to her sin, and the coming punishment because of that sin that had been taking place in Israel and Judah for many years. The prophet Jeremiah speaks to the fact that God wanted to do so much for them and bless them, but their behavior kept Him from doing that. Their sin was so severe it would cause them to be enslaved to their enemies (v.4). But Jeremiah also tells them the Lord blesses those that trust in Him (v.7) and that they will be like a tree (v.8) that is planted by the rivers of water just like Psalm 1 says about the blessed man [our scripture reading for Sunday]. With all this I wanted to talk about our country on this 4th of July weekend, and talk about the blessings of our nation, but also talk about her needs – as we have strayed from God. Will judgment come on us as a nation? That’s for God to decide in His providential timing. In the meantime, it’s time we turn back to God by individual souls humbling themselves, repenting and submitting to the creator God of the world and universe. And live faithfully for Him. More on all this Sunday morning.
See you then,
Pastor Weaver
