Our God Reigns, 1 Samuel 8

This Sunday, we continue our series in the book of 1st Samuel, looking at chapter 8.  In this text we have a situation in Israel arise because of circumstances (Samuel’s sons), but it is a problem because of a lack of submission to God’s ruling in their lives.  Now because of this situation they are asking; no, demanding for a king.  Is this a problem?  Should they be doing this? This Sunday, I want to show you 3 problems with them asking for a king.  Because the question comes down to why they want a king and why they want (demand) one now.  God was not opposed to a monarchy; He had one planned for their future.  In the scripture reading, 1 Samuel 12:12-25, we see the future realization of Israel’s choice in this current passage: they got what they wanted, but they lost what they had.  God gave them what they wanted, but they paid the price for their sinful demand in the future.  And the warning, well that’s what we have in our text!  What can we learn about God reigning in our lives from this O.T. text?
