This Sunday, we continue our series in the book of 1st Samuel, looking at chapter 7, verses 2-17. In this passage we have a major change from the status quo in Israel. With the ark of the covenant now returned, the people go on with their lives, knowing who Yahweh is, but still serving their false gods. They are still subservient to the Philistines as life just trudges on. But then, after 20 years, things begin to change as Israel has a change of heart. Most notably we see it where their mourning of the heavy blow (6:19) changes to them lamenting, seeking after the Lord (Yahweh) (7:2). This begins real repentance, real change! What this passage of scripture shows us is what real repentance looks like in our lives. I want to show everyone, this Sunday, 6 things that happen in the text that are the inner workings of repentance; as well as the outcomes of true repentance in our lives. In our scripture reading, Luke 24:36-53, we see Jesus telling his disciples, after His resurrection what they will be doing: preaching repentance! What can we learn about repentance from this O.T. text?
