This Sunday, we will finish our 2-part message from 1st Samuel, chapter 16 verses 14-23. This passage is talking about peace. Last week we looked at Hebrews 4:9-16 and talked about entering into God’s rest and what that means. We also spoke about how God can help us enter that rest through His giving us His Word, His sympathetic high priest, Jesus, and His making it possible to come to His throne of grace, prayer. Now we return to 1 Samuel and focus on the problem that Saul had as the Spirit of God leaves him and an “evil spirit from the Lord” torments him. Clearly not experiencing God’s rest, Saul requires “music therapy” that brings David, a skilled musician, to the court of Saul. Saul is not at peace and the text of Samuel has been showing us why. It also gives warnings to us believers today to make sure we are where we should be in our relationship with God, so that we can be at rest, with God’s help. Are you at peace with God? Is there something that is keeping you from being at peace with God and thereby not being at peace at all? Our scripture reading, Numbers 6:21-27 records Moses prayer, given to him directly from God, that tells the people that God can, and will give them blessings and peace.
