This Sunday we continue and are nearly finishing up our series in the book of 1 Samuel. This week we are in chapter 30. Here in this chapter, we have David and his men returning to Ziklag after God delivered them, so they didn’t have to fight against their own countrymen. To their horror Ziklag has been destroyed and their families are taken hostage! David and his men are obviously grieved and crying till they have no strength to cry anymore. David’s men are so upset that they even want to kill David, their leader. But David, at first distressed, encourages himself in the Lord his God (v.6c). What a man of character David was as he does several things in this passage that speak to his upright character. What can we learn about Character in this passage? We’ll look at 3 episodes that speak to and show that a person (a Christian) has Godly character. Do you have Godly character? Our scripture reading is Romans 5:1-10 where that passage speaks about how that by tribulations character is gained in Christians lives.
