This Sunday we return to our series in the book of 1 Samuel.  This week we are studying chapter 28 verses 3-25.  Here we have a panicked Saul because the Philistines have come up against him and have now advanced pretty far north (encamped at Shunem, just SE of the Sea of Galilee) into Israelite territory.  Saul wants to enquire of the Lord so he will know what to do.  But God won’t answer (v.6), through dreams, the Urim, nor by the prophets (all of whom Saul killed!).  And now, because of panic, he sins against the Lord and His law by seeking out a medium (to try and speak with the dead) and have that spiritist bring up Samuel from the dead!  Surprisingly it works (the medium screams) because of God’s miracle, and Saul is able to speak to Samuel.  Interesting that Samuel tells Saul nothing new and just reminds him that his kingdom will end and David’s kingdom will be established.  What can we learn about bad decisions that lead down a road to horrible sin like is exemplified with Saul here in this passage?  We’ll look at 4 facts about the road to horrible sin.  Our scripture reading is Proverbs 6:16-22 where the 7 deadly sins are listed as an abomination to God.  Yet those sins it seems are looked at as “not so bad” sins.  But think about it, where do those sins lead?  The road to horrible sin.
