The Law & Divorce, Matthew 5: 31-32

This Sunday, we continue our series on the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew’s gospel; and will be studying chapter 5, verses 31-32.  In this passage Jesus continues His teaching on the way to live; and dealing with questions of life and social issues of that day.  Here the question Jesus answers is a question he gets several times during His earthly ministry – divorce for any reason?  Jesus points to what the law says and then what He says now, which is not much different.  No divorce, God never intended divorce, but made allowances (which Jesus does with the exception clause in verse 32); and Moses also did under the law, because of hard hearts.  This Sunday we’ll talk about the Biblical teaching on divorce and talk about the importance of strengthening our marriages.
