The Failures and Fallouts of a Prophet, 1 Samuel 2: 22-36

This Sunday, continuing our series in the book of 1st Samuel we now come to chapter 2 verses 22-36.  In this passage we see a focus on a troubled prophet, and a narrator that places the responsibility of the sin problems squarely on the shoulders of Eli.  Herein is the problem of not making God a priority.  Other things become more important than they should be.  Eli allows his sons to sin, tolerates their wickedness, perhaps even participates in their sin by eating the stolen, bullied food his sons’ servants had taken.  Eli also tolerates the wicked abuse of people, the stealing and desecrating of the sacrificial system, along with the bullying practices that his sons were doing and doing nothing about it as people were trying to worship the Lord.  This Sunday, we will look at 3 problems Eli had because he failed to honor and give God the priority.  When we make choices (following up last week) we need to make sure we are honoring the Lord and not ourselves.
