David, a man after God’s Own Heart, 1 samuel 13:13-14

This Sunday, we continue our series in the book of 1st Samuel looking back now at chapter 13 verses 13-14.  We temporarily go back because I want to look at this new character (new in the text, not new to us, in chapter 16) David, this man after God’s own heart.  Saul had been highlighted, showing us why he was rejected as king of Israel, and why God had chosen David to be the next king.  Now here in this text, God tells why He has chosen David, an unknown nobody, but a man after God’s own heart to replace Saul.  How did David get this description (“a man after His own heart”) 2 times in scripture?  Where did he learn to follow after the Lord and not his own heart?  This Sunday morning, we look back at this passage, investigating truths about David’s life and showing you those truths about David, and how he became that man after God’s heart.  Where was he taught, and how he was taught to be humble, and to be a young man of God-like principles?

In our scripture reading, 1 Corinthians 1:18-29, we see there how God uses the insignificant, the plain, and the not so “smart” to confound the wise.  Just like God did with David!  How about you? How is God teaching you as a believer?  Isn’t God teaching you and training you for His glory?  To be a believer after His own heart?
