Complete Obedience, 1 Samuel 15

This Sunday, we are back now and continue our series in the book of 1st Samuel chapter 15.  In this chapter we see Saul highlighted again, and we are shown why he is rejected as king of Israel and why God had chosen another, David.  Saul is given instructions by Samuel from the Lord to obey.  Instructions that will carry out God’s holy war, a judgment promised against the Amalekites many years before.  That the entire country was to be destroyed, no one survives, no spoil.  It was carrying out God’s judgement against these terrorists that preyed on weaker people and were the 1st people to oppose the Israelites.  Here in the text, Saul partially obeys even though he thinks he completely obeyed (vs.13, 20)!  As a result, Samuel confronts Saul with leading questions, “What is this sound of sheep and cattle that I hear?” (v.14).  This Sunday morning, as we work through this passage, I will give you 4 things that disobedience does.  We’ll talk about the dangers of disobedience and the gains of obedience from this text. In our scripture reading, Ephesians 5:13-21, we see there the importance of submitting and obedience, and how it comes about in the life of an obedient Christian.  We need to submit to one another!  How about you? Are you obedient (submitting) to the Lord and to others?  Can’t have one without the other, right?
