This Sunday, our series continues on the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew’s gospel. We come now to chapter 6 and will be studying verses 1-4. In this passage, after Jesus had taught on the way to live real in kingdom living, He also dealt with questions on life and social issues of that day. Now Jesus tells the believers in His listening audience that when they begin to really live these principles of Christian living; that they might be tempted to have the wrong motives in doing these works of worship. “Take heed,” Jesus warns in verse 1, “that you don’t do these works to be seen of men.” The example given in the following 3 verses is about giving alms, (charity), to the poor and needy, and doing it without being noticed. This Sunday we’ll talk about 3 principles that Jesus lays out about doing your works of worship (alms) out of obedience to God, and not to be a show. So how do you do your acts of worship (service to God)? Why do you do your acts of worship? Jesus is telling believers to take a long, hard look at their worship motives. More on this Sunday morning…
See you Sunday,
Pastor Weaver
