We are on our last message in Matthew on the Sermon on the Mount, looking at the last verses of chapter 7, (verses 24-29). After speaking of 2 ways, the broad and narrow in (verses 13-14), and 2 trees/fruits in verses (15-20); he then cautions about 2 claims people may make in eternity in verses (21-23), now here finally in our text, Jesus calls our attention to 2 builders that portray 2 different responses to all that He has said. Again, Jesus speaks of who will enter (v. 21) and of the problem of those who might think they’re entering but are really not on the narrow road but are on the broad road (vs.13-14). Here both the wise and the foolish are builders. But what foundation are they building on? What Jesus does here in our text, as He speaks primarily to believing Jews, is to challenge them to reevaluate and reexamine their hearts and lives. Are you sure you are building your life on the word (rock)? Because many THINK they are but are building on the sand. (v. 26). So, what are the results? (v. 25, 27). Where is Jesus saying that the foolish will end up? What does this tell us about eternity? This Sunday we will look at 3 facts about this illustration that Jesus gives. More on this Sunday morning…
See you Sunday,
Pastor Weaver
