This Sunday, before we go over to the book of Samuel for a verse-by-verse series there; I want to do a communion service where we will look at the book of Isaiah in chapter 52 verses 13-15. In this passage, that’s relatively unknown compared to the very well-known chapter 53, is beginning the story of the suffering servant, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Here, Isaiah the prophet foretells how Jesus would be exalted by being abased, that is, the suffering and shame Jesus would experience on the old rugged cross. The pain and suffering that He would go through to then being “exalted and extolled, and be very high” (verse 13). I see in this passage, Isaiah telling us what Christ did for us; 3 parts that are very unusual because Jesus suffered and was treated terribly for you and me; only to be so highly exalted after by God the Father. So, in verse 15, there is shock, people are appalled, kings are left speechless and can’t believe this turn of events; that is, what Jesus, the Son of God did for us.
