This Sunday, we are in our series studying 1st Samuel, at chapter 19 verses 18-24. Here again, we have God’s clear protection of David from King Saul who is trying to have him killed. Now David escapes and goes to spend some time with a very spiritual friend and probably a great mentor to him, Samuel. Now God protects David, not through people, but through His divine, direct interaction. As the text shares, God makes a lot of people look and act very foolish and powerless. They are unable to control their own actions and are rendered powerless by God’s Spirit. Here God, while protecting David, also shows us God’s complete and absolute power over ungodly people. God protects David and Samuel while making a fool of Saul and his men. Saul is not in control of his life; God is! All people everywhere, need to understand that they are under the power and complete control of a sovereign God. We must understand that no one lives apart from God and is successful. We must understand also, in all that we do in life; that we will answer one day to a holy, sovereign God!
In our scripture reading, Psalm 1, we read about the blessed man and the ungodly… what the godly do and where they are planted, as opposed to what the wicked do who are like worthless chaff. They both make choices and will all answer to God one day. So, let’s make pleasing, obedient choices for God today.
