How Can You Know? (Part 1), 1 John 2: 3-6

This Sunday as we continue our expository series in the first epistle of John; we come to chapter 2, looking at verses 3-6.  Due to the amount of material here in this text we will be doing these verses in two parts, this week and next.  Here in this passage John, after laying the groundwork of our salvation and what Christ has done for us; he now goes on to a next logical step in showing how powerful it is in what he just said.  That is, because of what Christ has done, we now know (can know) that we are saved!  Your salvation is not guesswork!  And how do we know?  Because we are obeying His commandments.  This week we will see in these verses evidences of salvation, or what we commonly call assurances of our salvation.  Are you absolutely, completely sure that you are saved?  Come to this passage and look with me and let’s do a self-examination.  Let’s look at 4 points, one point will be that you can know, and then 3 others that will tell you how you can know: all from our 4 verses in this text.  We’ll look at 2 points this week and 2 points next week.
