Hope Deferred in Parents/Children, 1 Thessalonians 2: 7-13

This Sunday, we continue our topical series on the scripture: Proverbs 13:12 “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”  This “Hope Deferred” series helps us with Biblical guidance when our hopes, dreams, plans, become deferred, that is delayed for a period of time, or even forever.  This week, we will talk about “Hope Deferred in Parents/Children” from 1 Thessalonians 2:7-13.  In a lot of ways this message could be a Mother’s Day, Father’s Day message.  Paul in the 1 Thessalonians text speaks of his love and care for the church of Thessalonica, and that his care and comfort of them was like a father to his children.  We often can have hope deferred in families where people the closest to us, and that we love the most, can let us down and disappoint us – because of sin.  What causes hope deferred in families, particularly in parents and also children?  What can we do when it happens?  In this message we will talk about those struggles inside our home, and also with family outside of our home.

Our scripture reading this Sunday is Proverbs 3:1-13, a passage where Solomon gives his son some wise advice about life, wisdom and trusting the Lord in all areas of his life.  And that by following his father’s advice there will be numerous benefits like health, long life, direction in life, wisdom, blessings etc.
