A testimony to the grace of God, 1 Samuel 12

This Sunday, as we continue our series in the book of 1st Samuel, we now come to chapter 12.  In this text we see Samuel as a now older man choosing to step down to just a prophet, and no longer a judge, – sort of a semi-retirement.  At this Gilgal assembly, sort of a court appearance, Samuel puts himself on trial and then uses that as a challenge to the people after they acknowledge his absolute flawless character with them.  As he has earned the respect of the people, he then challenges them in their relationship with Yahweh.  Have they not rejected the LORD in demanding a king?  Hasn’t Yahweh done so much for them in His grace (chapter 11) that they didn’t deserve?   Now they finally realize their sin and admit their guilt to God (v.19). But Samuel shows and demonstrates to them that God, in His great grace forgives, forgets and restores!

Sunday morning, I want to show you 5 ways Samuel gives as to how they (Israel) and we can have God’s blessings, true, God given blessings.  It’s a testimony of His grace.  It also means that this new monarchy will also be used as a means of other blessings from God – the coming Messiah!

In our scripture reading, Joshua 1:1-9, we see there where God tells Joshua how to have great success in leading the people of Israel after Moses; if he puts his faith and trust in God and is strong and courageous in Him.  What can we learn about Samuel’s powerful speech and challenge to the people?
