This Sunday we are continuing our series in the first epistle of John looking at chapter 5, verses 16-17. In this passage John is giving an example of what he’s talked about in confident prayer in our last message. The example he gives is how we can pray for others; when there is a particular struggle with sin in a person’s life. Sin is so terrible, it is so awful, and it is a huge problem in lives, and takes lives! So, John explains sin and its problem in the life of both believers and unbelievers.
He answers the question of what to do when you see, firsthand, a sin in the life of another person, like a believer. John is addressing what to do with this problem sin, that could lead to death. Sometimes indirectly, and sometimes directly. And it’s not necessarily one sin he’s talking about but many. He says what to do when there is sin that leads to death and there is sin that doesn’t necessarily lead to death. For all of them in people’s lives, or in your own life: the answer is – pray! This Sunday we will look at 2 points about sin and remind ourselves about the seriousness of it, and how to pray about it.
