Christ, Our Substitute, 1 John 2:2

This Sunday we continue our expository series in the first epistle of John.  Our text this week continues in chapter 2, looking at verse 2.  Here in this passage John tells us that our advocate (we talked about last Sunday), is also the propitiation for our sins, and the sins of the whole world.  What is propitiation?  It’s not a word we ever use in our day to day lives.  Well John uses it here to further explain what he has been talking about in the previous verses – mainly our sin problem and God’s forgiveness (1:8-10 & 2:1).  He then answers this question: how is this forgiveness possible? For all who receive Him!?  This Sunday I want to explain this word propitiation by looking at 2 important points that will help you understand the substitute Christ is for us!
