By This We Know, 1 John 3:23-24

This Sunday we are back and continuing our series in the first epistle of John looking at chapter 3, verses 23-24.  Here in these verses, John wants these believers to know they really believe by their obedience to God’s commandments.  By this we know, is the challenge given in these final two verses of this chapter.  This is how we know we are His; as verse 24 says: “And hereby we know that He abideth in us by the Spirit which He hath given us.”  Here John gives 2 points about evidences of being truly born again.  Not just saying it as anyone can just say they’re saved.  Remember Mattthew 7:21-23 says: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.  22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?  23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
