This Sunday, we continue our series on the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount with the fifth beatitude from chapter 5, verse 7 “Blessed are the merciful.” This beatitude we can tend to think is an easy one; after all, who is not merciful as a Christian? But here is where we tend to look at a term like this mercy and see it all too simplistically. What does it really mean to show mercy to others? Do we really understand how difficult this can be at times? How costly and risky it can be? When our true desire is to show mercy, we need to understand and accept how truly hard this can be. So this Sunday, let’s talk about practical ways and how we can live out this mercy; because we as believers, have obtained mercy.
