This Sunday, we will take a break from our series on the sermon on the mount in the gospel of Matthew, and look at another passage before we do a pair of Christmas messages in the month of December. So, I thought we would look at, and consider one of my favorite passages of scripture where Joshua challenges the people of Israel toward the end of his life in Joshua 24. We will look specifically at verses 14-24. Here, as I said, Joshua challenges the people to serve the Lord. To make a decision about the Lord and to act on that decision showing that they really mean what they say they will do (up to this point they were still serving idols v.14). He says “you cannot serve the Lord, for He is a holy God…He will not forgive your sins.” In other words, God is not to be taken lightly, served intermittently, or with lip service only. You must serve Him with all your heart! Then Joshua says “…as for me and my house we will serve the Lord [emphasis mine]. Choice, choices we make them all the time and they affect our lives more than we realize (every day). How are you making choices in your life right now? Are they for, about God? What do your choices tell you about you?
